One of the worst things that’s ever happened to me…back up my blog

Ah… wasn’t college a wonderful time. Although for me it was only four years ago, some memories are still so clear. Football games, homecoming, all night cram-sessions and of course dating around! It’s a unique time of life when one feels as carefree as they ever will. Locked into that special interim of time between being a child still controlled by the hand of parents and before the responsibilities of a career, mortgage and fiscal restraints (well, I’m sure most of us had fiscal restraints in college, we were just having too much fun to care!) College for me still ranks as one of the most enjoyable times of my life. Many of the friends and associations I made there still last till this day.

One of the best things that happened to me in college was meeting my wife. During my last year of college, I had the great fortune of dating one of the cutest and beautiful girls on campus. Fortunately for me, I was a great salesman and convincing her to marry me was one of the greatest sales jobs I’ve ever pulled off. We had a fabulous time in college. We went and did everything together, trips to Vegas and Los Angeles, rodeos, hiking, fishing, studying, dancing, and on and on and on. Now, not to completely divulge how old I am, this time period was right at the advent of digital cameras. I had just purchased a new digital camera and we took it everywhere with us. All of these fun and exciting moments were captured on new “film” as each week I would download our pictures on to my PC and occasionally email them off to friends and family. I would also from time to time print pictures and give them to others to remind us of the memories we had made and the feelings we had while making them. After dating for period of time, my wife and I were married and the story goes on and on. Up until the tragedy, we probably had close to 1,000 pictures, including our wedding, honeymoon and trips we had taken as newlyweds. Then it happened, during the move between ending college and a new town to start business somehow our pictures were erased off of my hard-drive. As I set-up my computer at my new apartment the whole hard-drive had been compromised and not only were all of my pictures gone, but so were my documents, spreadsheets, business plans…etc. Everything. My wife has never forgiven me for not backing those pictures up before we packed up and headed out of our small college town. All of our dating years and the first year of our marriage is gone. Over time, memories fade. It’s amazing how a simple picture can bring back such powerful feelings. A picture, truly, “is worth a thousand words” Since that personal tragedy, I’ve religiously backed-up my data, files and pictures. It is part of the motivation why Bloggled exists.
