3 Top Sports Blogs
Ever wonder what it takes to be a top sports blogger? A few nights ago I was watching “Costas NOW” on HBO. For those of you who haven’t seen this show, Bob Costas takes a hard-core, no-spin approach to professional sports in today’s world. He brings in controversial guests and invites rivalries and debate on his show. On this particular show there were three guests featured, one of which is a professional sports blogger Will Leitch at www.deadspin.com. That’s right; all he does for a living is blog about sports. He has a massive following of both friends and enemies. In fact, on Costas NOW he was ripped to shreds by the other two guests about the abusive nature of his blog and multiple unverified accusations and happenings that he blogs about freely. Now, I don’t know exactly how many readers he has, but in a short two hours after his latest blog post I’ve seen over 200 comments. That’s pretty powerful. It’s unbelievable how much money his blog must make off on a monthly basis. This acts as another powerful example of blogging and the increasing opportunities in the online marketplace for those who can attract and retain subscribers. So, for your reading pleasure, I’ve identified three of the hottest sports blogs on the internet right now.
www.Deadspin.com is a “no-holds-barred” sports community. There are multiple blog posts on a daily basis and I would assume multiple editors and writers. The readership is massive. (over a quarter-million unique visitors some months) Advertising space isn’t “in your face” but it’s definitely not discreet either. The blog focuses on all mainstream sports and professional athletes, both on and off the field. Little to no editing is done on comments. All readers are welcome to say what they would like, positive or negative about posts and content. This site is for fanatic sports fans that know their stuff and are very opinionated. Don’t spit against the wind here unless you’re looking for a fight.
www.withleather.uproxx.com is the next blog that hit my radar. These guys don’t post nearly as often as Deadspin.com, perhaps only half a dozen times per month. The blog has the personality of a wild sports bar. It should probably contain some type of parental controls with a PG-13 rating due to all of the beautiful women in swimsuits every other post. Once again, the blog is highly opinionated with lots of interaction from its readers through comments and replies. These guys are definitely opportunists. They look for the hottest news in sports, no matter where it comes from.
www.barstoolsports.com is the last sports blog on my list tonight. This blog doesn’t have quite the following as the previous two, but is admirable none the less. Once again, lots of hot babes and banner ads. I noticed this blog didn’t have quite as much content as the others, but instead, lots of youtube videos and pictures. The writer is actually pretty funny and entertaining to follow.
Well, that does it for top sports blogs. There are literally thousands of sports blogs out there for all types of sports and athletes. Have fun exploring them all! Get Bloggled!
